One of my biggest goals as a coach is to change people’s perceptions of weightlifting...

I always hear, “I don’t want to look like a man”, “cardio is the only way to lose weight”, “I don’t want to get too bulky” and the list goes on.

First of all to gain loads of muscle there is a lot more that goes into it other than lifting some weight. There are so many great benefits that weightlifting has on your OVERALL HEALTH !

• Increases your overall strength and bone density, so when you’re 100 you can still get up off a chair and be independent

• Helps manage weight. Simply having more muscle helps the body burn more calories even whilst sitting down • Improves quality of life as you gain confidence, and have a sense of accomplishment when you finish a good weight session. Helps you change your goals to performance based as they are more tangible, positively impacting your mental health • Studies show it lowers your risk of suffering a heart attack or stroke by 40-70%. Boosts cardiovascular health aswell • All exercise helps you sleep, weightlifting is no exception

Both cardio and weightlifting are important aspects of exercise so don’t limit yourself just to one !

So stop worrying about getting too bulky, because unless it is your goal you won’t. There is more then one element that goes towards achieving your goals but just lift the weight people you will only thank yourself later
